This December – 31 Days – 31 Beaches to clean!
We can finally release what we have been working on these past months. Here at Ocean Mimic we are proud to present – the Bali Plastic Tour.
There will be one beach cleanup every single day of December with as many people as we can possibly gather in every location. This is a huge challenge to clean up Bali’s over-polluted beaches and help the local and visiting communities to change their plastic habits.
Monsoon season in Bali
It is monsoon season in Bali in December and 9 months of accumulated trash gets washed downstream into the oceans and onto the beaches. During just one clean-up last December, 40 of our volunteers picked up a colossal 640 kilos of trash from a single beach in Canggu in one hour. We expect between 5 – 10 tonnes of trash to be collected!
Read more about Bali’s waste crisis here.
Indonesia is currently the second largest global contributor to ocean plastic pollution. We were devastated witnessing this first-hand when we initially arrived in Bali and desperately wanted to create something that could make a real difference.
One year later and with the deluge of plastic trash that monsoon brings we are planning the Bali Plastic Tour to clean all the way around Bali with one cleanup every day in a different location. We are inviting local schools, villages, hotels and businesses to join to raise awareness and educate about the issue. See full schedule at the bottom.
The Ocean Mimic Big Three
As we go we are going to be focusing on the Ocean Mimic BIG THREE …
We are reaching out to local villages, schools, hotels, dive centers, cafes, villas, influencers so we can make as much NOISE as possible!!
All schools island-wide are invited and we have developed 8 different games for kids to learn about plastic and fun little leaflets in Indonesian with a quiz to take home
By cleaning beaches we realise our own personal power. Everyone has the potential to be a part of something extraordinary! It all starts with YOU!
Donate to the Bali Plastic Tour
This November we need to fundraise a minimum of $5000 to go ahead with the Bali Plastic Tour. There are costs involved – waste management, travel, gloves, bags and printing of leaflets to name a few. We cannot afford to go ahead with this project without donations and sponsorship.
Please donate here
- $2 = 1 Kilo
- $10 = 1 Reusable cotton bag for a local person
- $20 = 1 Reusable stainless steel bottle for a local person
- $50 = Sponsor a location on the tour
- $100 = Sponsor a school cleanup in 2020
Types of Donations
Pick up Kilos
It’s monsoon season and we expect to pick up tonnes of trash over the course of the Bali Plastic Tour but we can’t do it without your help and donations. If you donate to pick up kilos we will provide you with a trash certificate with a photo and details of the exact cleanup you contributed to.
For the $2 / kilo option you can donate to pick up as many kilos as you like and we will send you a trash certificate of where we picked up your trash on the Bali Plastic Tour.
Please donate here
Part of the solution to this trash crisis is in encouraging the use of reusable items instead of single use plastics but we forget that for many people a water bottle just isn’t affordable let alone a priority. So we want to donate them to those who need them. Every bottle and bag donated might deter hundreds of single use items from entering the environment.
For the bottle or bag option we will distribute the donated bottles and bags in 2020 on distribution days in areas where they are most needed.
Please donate a bottle or a bag to a local person here
Running events has costs – gloves, bags, waste disposal / recycling, refill water stations, printing leafets …
If you chose to sponsor a location on the tour or a school cleanup we will thank you on social media and on the day for your help. You can chose a specific location on the Bali Plastic Tour to sponsor if you wish or we will choose a location on your behalf. If you choose to sponsor a school cleanup this will go towards a school cleanup in 2020.
