That is absolutely crazy!
We want to say a huge thank you to all of our leaders around the world for their amazing work. We are unbelievably proud of our community. What we set out to build was a network of people who feel inspired to get their hands dirty to do their bit for this incredible blue dot we live on. People who have hope, people who take responsibility and people who create positive change.
Why clean up?
We believe that cleanups have an immense power. Anyone who has attended a cleanup will feel the positive energy that results from bringing people together to do something good for the world. Cleanups are empowering, they are educational and they raise awareness about a plastic crisis in Bali and worldwide!
Of course it doesn’t end there. Let’s continue to save the world together – so much more is needed but please. We have so so much power as individuals we just need to believe it!
What can happen in a year
Just one year ago marks Ocean Mimic’s first ever cleanup. We were a group of around 20 people gathered in Canggu, Bali and we picked up around 5 kilos. Now, just one year later, we have picked up a total of 12017.86 kilos = 12 tonnes of waste from around the world with the help of over 4700 volunteers! If that isn’t proof of our individual power I don’t know what is!
Ocean Mimic was started by Emma and Chelsea – just two girls passionate about protecting the ocean. What started as a super eco friendly brand of vibrant swimwear backed by cleanups turned into a worldwide movement.
If you are out there reading this article and thinking ‘what can I do?’ we have plenty of ideas! We are always looking for budding environmentalists to join the Mimic Movement and lead a cleanup in their hometown. Cleanups aren’t just for World Cleanup Day they are important every single day of the year.
Join our community by joining our Facebook group for leaders here. In the group is a cleanup kit with information and we give you all the support you need.
What is World Cleanup Day?
World Cleanup Day is an incredible initiative started in Estonia just 11 years ago. It asks people to join forces for just one day to clean up. Think of it as a spa day for the earth! Everyone takes an hour or so to say ‘you know what planet, I’ve got your back’. Last year 18 million people across 157 countries united forces for World Cleanup Day. What an amazing achievement. That is the biggest waste collection day in human history!
Thanks to Financer.com!
We want to take a moment to say a few thank you’s. First of all thanks to every single volunteer who cleaned up with us. Secondly thanks to WorldCleanupDay.org and finally a huge thanks to Financer.com.
Financer.com was our worldwide sponsor for World Cleanup Day! They have even done their own cleanup with their team in Cyprus. They cleaned up 80 kilos from Toxefetra Beach – a nesting ground for the protected Loggerhead and Green turtles. We were lucky enough to meet one of Financer’s team out in Canggu Bali who believed in what we were trying to achieve and managed to support our vision. Read more about their cleanup and our partnership here.
